Robert MacNeil is the developer of Bagpipe Music Writer GOLD. He used an earlier version of BMW to produce his first collection of music in 1990. He is also a well known composer having written such tunes such as: Jack’s Welcome Home, Murdoch MacAlister, The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, The Pile Driver, Blackie MacLeod and Jamie McInnes Ceilidh. His compositions have been played at Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House and were also used to start the medleys of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band and the Field Marshall Montgomery Pipe Band when they each won the World Pipe Band Championship.

Rob was a piper with the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band Grade 1 and Pipe Major of the SFU Pipe Band Grade 2 before becoming band manager in 1990. He has been primarily responsible for seven of the band’s recordings and their last nine Highland Arts Festivals.

Rob is currently the President of the British Columbia Pipers Association and a member of their Adjudicators Panel. During 2003, he was Chair of the Alliance of North American Pipe Band Associations. He is a registered Professional Engineer and a medical devices Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs consultant.
